CHALLENGE

An academic project to compose a business plan to commercialize xSeer - a big data visualization software - and present the same to Sand Hill Angels, a VC firm

xSeer (http://www.xseer.io/) is a startup that provides a browser-based visualization tool for massive data sets

 

MY ROLE

Market research - Opportunity evaluation - User research - Presentation to VCs

 

MARKET RESEARCH

Extensive research was conducted to find numerous opportunities to commercialize xSeer while playing to its biggest strengths - quick visualization of massive datasets 

 

HONING IN

We selected an opportunity that was scalable and filled a gap in a large market

We picked the use case of a business in the wellness industry (gyms, spas, etc) trying to pick a new location as an illustrative example 

 

USER RESEARCH

As a User Researcher for the team, I found that business owners make a complex decision involving many variables

 

BUSINESS MODEL

A SaaS model with differential pricing was developed. The average price to a customer was $800/month, and break even was estimated at Year 6

 

PRESENTATION TO SAND HILL ANGELS

As the culmination of the academic project, I presented our opportunity to Sand Hill Angels. Our presentation was well received and we gained valuable feedback
